Therapeutic Riding Session Information

Ready Set Ride Sessions provide equine therapeutic activities to differently abled children. Sessions focus on the students’ abilities to participate in a series of movements and tasks designed by the instructor to work harmoniously with rider and horse. Throughout the session, instructors continually interact with each rider to emphasize activities which stimulate areas of need. Instructors use visual, audible and kinesthetic forms of communication throughout the sessions to make sure the student’s participation is meaningful and enjoyable. From the beginning of the session to the end, you’ll always see a smile on a rider’s face.

Each child’s abilities and challenges are evaluated so we can offer personalized activities and experiences to achieve the best possible results.

Ready Set Ride Therapeutic Recreation Facility offers 7 week riding sessions from April to October and are scheduled to accommodate rider and parent/guardian schedules.

Each 7-week session at Ready Set Ride is guided by:
  • A trained instructor following PATH guidelines who will lead all activities
  • One or two side walkers (rider assistants) who will accompany riders for safety and to ensure activities are completed to the best of the rider’s ability
  • A horse leader to guide horses and assist with ensuring riders and horses are comfortable

By providing students with extensive personal attention, a greater length of therapeutic time can be spent with activities and  horses. This hands-on approach provides the students with a higher degree of comfort, stability, and control.

Each instructor and volunteer devotes their time to make every session a safe and fun experience giving the students memories for a lifetime.

Yes! If your rider new to horseback riding and you’re not sure about their comfort level, we recommend A Trial Ride Evaluation.

Trial Rides approximately 15 minutes and are $50 (cash or check) and $51.50 online).

We do have a rider weight limit of 150 lbs, as it helps to protect our horses’ backs. However, many factors play into this, to include the horse’s size, the weight of the tack (saddle, etc), how well the rider is able to carry their own weight, and the availability of the horse (we match horse-rider pairings to fit the rider’s needs, and horses get breaks!). If you have any questions about this, please email us directly at admin@readysetride.org

    • $600.00 (cash or check) or $618.00 (online) | 7-Week Weekday Sessions
    • $670.00  (cash or check) or $690.00 (online) | 7-Week Sunday Sessions

Please note, we rely solely on volunteer assistance to conduct our sessions. Sunday Sessions are the most requested  by families and the most difficult to provide volunteer assistance.

All Riders should wear appropriate shoes, clothing and a helmet.

Clothing: All riders should wear pants. No dresses, skirts or costumes are allowed except on designated dress-up days.

Shoes: Beginner riders should wear closed-toed shoes. Crocs, sandals, open-toed, slides and steel-toed shoes are not allowed.

Intermediate and Advanced Riders will need to provide their own helmets and  boots with a heel when riding.

Parents or family members assisting their rider are welcome to attend. We do ask that small children not attend if they are not riding, as we do not have staff that can watch over them at the barn while the other family members are in lesson.
